Cleveland moves a step closer to creating city building authority

(Cleveland)- The City of Cleveland has taken another step that will lead to creating a city building authority. That authority, which must be approved by the state legislator would grant powers to the governing board to hold, own and convey real and personal property, to acquire, construct, purchase and own needed projects along with accept gifts and other funding.

The city council held a public hearing on this issue Tuesday night to report city residents and receive comments on the project.

City Administrator  Tom O’Bryant said that State Senator Steve Gooch has agreed to introduce legislation that will establish the authority.

The authority will consist of five members, who live in the city, with two members coming from the mayor and council, one member from the city planning and zoning commission, and two members at large being appointed by the city council.

Cleveland Mayor Josh Turner said this authority will “give the city more options when it comes to financing and working with different projects.”
