Mary Sue Wimpey

Mary Sue Wimpey, age 71, of Cleveland, Georgia, passed away very peacefully at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Dahlonega on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at 10:35 a.m.

Ms. Wimpey was born on August 17, 1949, in Hayesville, North Carolina, to the late Will and Mattie Stroud. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only daughter, Linda Martin. She was of the Christian Faith.

“Mawmaw” as she was known by her granddaughter, Ashley, loved to enjoy the simple things in life. She was a homemaker for most of her life. She loved talking on the phone to friends and family, watching her “programs,” reading, and shopping. You could find her cooking up delicious country meals with the best homemade buttermilk biscuits you’ve ever had in your life. She never wavered in her belief of God. She was disabled and unable to attend church in the latter part of her life, but formerly was a member of Clarkesville Church of God and, prior to that, Shiloh Baptist Church in Hayesville, North Carolina. She was so giving and had a big heart. She also had a big personality to go with it, always laughing and joking around. She was truly one of a kind and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include her granddaughter and honorary “son,” Ashley and Benji Williams of Buford; brother, Boyd Stroud, of Hayesville; sister, Frances Eller, of Young Harris; great-grandchildren, Henry Williams and Mattie Williams, both of Buford; and many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

Graveside Services were held on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Hayesville, North Carolina, with Mr. Everett Huffman officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, North Chapel at 245 Central Avenue, Demorest, Georgia 30535. Telephone: 706-778-1700.
