Thursday’s Habersham Board of Education work session assessed plans for roof repairs on the Ninth Grade Academy, changes to Radier Stadium seating, out-of-county tuition, and the academic calendar.
Bids for the Ninth Grade Academy roof will open Friday, Feb. 5 at 11 o’clock, and the BOE is optimistically awaiting affordable options to fix damages to the roof. The board talked about plans for changes to Raider Stadium seating to better accommodate handicapped attendees, make more space between rows, create designated space for band families, and bring more seating options to other sports like baseball and softball. These plans will be further discussed and voted on at Monday’s meeting.
The academic calendar for the 2021-2022 school year was presented to the board, which HCSS faculty, staff, and parents weighed in on. For the first time in years, students will get a full week of fall break in the upcoming school year, and teachers will receive four days off.
The Habersham BOE discussed plans for out-of-county students and their tuition, a plan that allows students from outside of the county to attend Habersham County Schools, space, disciplinary and academic records permitting. The board hasn’t decided on an exact tuition price yet, but discussed a tuition price of $1,000. The BOE predicts they will discuss this again at their March meeting.
The February BOE meeting will livestream from their youtube channel on Monday, Feb. 8 at 6:00 pm. A link to the livestream will go live on their website at the time of the meeting.
