Celebration of Life services for Dorothy “Dottie” Willis Simmons; age 78, of Cornelia, will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 11:00 AM, from the Cornelia United Methodist Church with Reverend Jay Hughes officiating.
Mrs. Simmons passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015, following a brief illness.
Born October 24, 1936, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mrs. Simmons was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Marion Lois Woleben Willis. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons is preceded in death by her sister Jane Brunt.
Mrs. Simmons retired from Habersham County School System in May 2004 after 28 years of dedicated service. She will be remembered for many things as a result of working in the school system, most notably her sense of humor and being “The Witch” at Halloween. Mrs. Simmons was an active member of Cornelia United Methodist Church for many years. Music being one of her passions, she sang in the adult choir and played the piano for the children’s choir. In addition to her service in the church, Mrs. Simmons loved working in her yard, tending her roses, and doting on her pets.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by son and daughter in law Bill and Crystal Simmons of Baldwin, son and daughter in law John and Rhonda Simmons of Clarkesville; daughter and son in law Marion and Bud Brown of Dacula, and daughter and son in law Donna and Andy Allen of Clarkesville; grandchildren Day, Caleb, Haley, Katie, Morgan, Megan, Hannah, and Zoe; great grandchild Kira; and nieces Kat and Jenni.
