GIRLS
The MS girls basketball team edged out rivals Towns County in a close 29-22 game, securing an eighth straight victory. After trailing in the first quarter, the Lady Indians stormed back to earn the win.
Towns County held a slim 7-5 lead after one quarter of play, but TFS outscored them 24-15 the rest of the way, including 15-9 in the second half. Haygen James led in scoring with 10 points, while Millie Holcomb had nine. Lizzie Huebner tallied five points, Breelyn Wood three, and Chesney Tanksley two in the win.
The Lady Indians are 8-0 on the season, and return to play January 26 at Rabun Gap.
BOYS
The TFS MS boys basketball team took a well-earned 44-31 win over Towns County at home on Monday evening, laying partial claim to a regular season Tri-State League Championship. The Indians shook off a slow start and used a big second quarter to propel them past the visitors.
After both teams tallied five points in the first, it was TFS who pulled away with an 18-point second quarter. Tanner Davis scored eight points in the second quarter, including hitting a 3-pointer. It was 23-16 at the half, and Towns had cut the deficit to 30-25 going into the final quarter.
Clay Kafsky hit a big 3-pointer of his own in the fourth, one of four team triples in the game. Davis finished with 14 to lead the Indians, while Teryk Tilley had seven points, Kafsky six, and Jackson Carlan five. Chase Pollock and Will Green both recorded three points, while Zach Freeman, Zach Carringer, and Elijah Barker each had two.
TFS moves to 5-1 and gets back in the win column following a loss the last time out. The Indians return to action on January 26 at Rabun Gap.
