(Cleveland) – White County government is starting the new year with new opportunities to communicate with the public. The county now has a social media presence on Facebook and Twitter.

White County Manager Jason Cobb said the county saw a need to push information to citizens in a fast and effective manner. Two White County college students, Shayla Smallwood and Alyssa Turner devoted time during their Christmas break to work on the project. They got the accounts up and running near the end of December.

“Social media has such a big effect on the world today, and I considered this a great opportunity to work with Alyssa,” Smallwood said.

Turner is a hospitality major in college. She says this has given her a little insight into how it all works. Both agreed it would give them something extra to put on their resumés.
