This is the final week of early voting for the January 5th runoff election. Election officials say the number of people casting ballots hasn’t been as strong as in the General Election but the numbers are still good.
Early voting is limited to just four days this week with government offices closed Friday for the observance of the New Years Day Holiday.
Total turnout for the 2020 runoff election statewide is running 24% lower than it was at this point in the general election.
So far in the 2020 runoff election, 2,126,254 Georgians have voted. At this point in the 2020 general election, that number was 2,805,493. Some of that 679,000 vote decrease could be attributed to abbreviated early in-person voting Christmas week. Other contributing factors may include voter burnout and election mistrust.
According to GeorgiaVotes.com, mail-in balloting is down 25% from November. Voters have cast 748,302 mail ballots and more than 1.3 million early in-person ballots.
