There’s still time to join the Polar Bear Swim at Lake Lanier Islands

Who doesn’t like the thought of running away from 2020? That’s exactly what people will be doing on New Year’s Day during the Polar Bear Swim at Lake Lanier.

The event, sponsored by the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club, is scheduled for noon on January first at Lake Lanier Olympic Park. Now in its 23rd year, the Polar Bear Swim is part of Winter Beach Bash.

Organizers say this year’s event will be socially-distanced. Instead of waiting in line to jump off the dock, participants will Run Away from 2020 and into the chilly water from the beach. There will be food trucks, games, and awards for categories such as youngest, oldest, largest family group, and 3 person relay team awards. There will even be a marshmallow snowman building contest.

Registration is $20 per person. All those pre-registered by December 18 will receive an event t-shirt in their size. Late and day-of registrants will receive t-shirts if they’re still available.

Entry fees are non-refundable. The Polar Bear Swim will be held rain or shine, hot or cold. For more information or to register, click here.
