Hometown pride was brimming Monday in Dawsonville as native son Chase Elliott celebrated his NASCAR Cup win with family, friends, and fans.
The Dawsonville Pool Room, long a favorite local haunt, streamed the celebration live on Facebook.
At 24, Elliott, the son of former NASCAR Champ Bill Elliott, became the third-youngest driver to win the NASCAR Cup title when he drove from the back of the field to victory lane Sunday at Phoenix.
Elliott, who turns 25 later this month, has followed in his father’s tracks. Bill Elliott won the 1988 championship and 16 times was voted by the fans NASCAR’s most popular driver. Chase Elliott became the fan-favorite in 2018 after Earnhardt Jr. retired. He’s the first most popular driver to win the championship since his father won his only title, reports ESPN.
