Roswell woman struck, killed on GA-59 near Commerce

A Franklin County driver will not be charged in a pedestrian’s death on GA-59 Tuesday night near Commerce.

Andrew Kelly, 28, of Carnesville, was driving southbound in a 2008 Ford Focus when a woman, later identified as Katarzyna Stapor of Roswell, entered the highway from the eastbound shoulder. As she crossed the road, the right front bumper of the car hit her, according to Cpl. Joshua Hedden of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.

Stapor, 39, then traveled off the roadway and landed in the grass on the westbound shoulder.

The accident happened around 8:12 p.m. near Walkers Way. The State Patrol says Stapor was not in a crosswalk and was not wearing reflective clothing.
