The Oconee County, South Carolina, Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a Sunday afternoon homicide that took the life of a 63-year-old man.
The sheriff’s office said the E-911 Communications Center received a call around 2:15 p.m. Sunday, August 30, in reference to a report of a man who had been shot. The call came from an address on Qualls Hill Drive, which is near the Madison Community off of Highway 123 near the South Carolina/Georgia border. The caller that made the initial report was not the victim, according to Oconee County Sheriff’s Master Deputy Jimmy Watt.
Deputies and paramedics were dispatched to the scene as well as investigators and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit. At the scene, investigators discovered a man with a gunshot wound and they called in the Coroner’s Office.
Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis identified the victim as Roger Qualls. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone who may have been traveling on Highway 123 between Jenkins Bridge Road and the South Carolina/Georgia line between noon and 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, to contact the Sheriff’s Office if they observed any suspicious vehicles or a white male and a white female that may have been walking on foot.
