White County seeks Board Of Elections and Registration applicants

(Cleveland) – The White County Board of Commissioners has announced that they have begun taking applications for appointment to a five-member Board of Elections &  Registration. Previously, the county probate judge ran elections.

A county news release says the Board of Elections & Registration will be responsible for conducting fair and impartial elections and registering local residents to vote – all within prescribed federal, state, and local laws. This is an advisory board which assists with department related decision making on elections, events, and other important items with regards to elections and registration.

The Board will function as the superintendent of elections in White County beginning January first, however, the release advises the board will be observing portions of the 2020 elections process as part of this transition.

Initial terms of this board will be for a two (2) or four (4) year term – following the initial terms all appointments will be for a four (4) term.

Qualifications of board members are as follows:

  • Must be a resident of White County;
  • Must be registered to vote;
  • Must be available to attend training required by O.C.G.A § 21-2-100; and
  • Must be available to meet, at a minimum, on a quarterly basis.
