Sydney Brookshire, a member of the Habersham Central Class of 2020, has been named a QuestBridge Scholar at Emory University. Brookshire is one of approximately 300 Emory students who were named finalists in the highly competitive QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship program during their senior year of high school.
Brookshire is attending Emory’s Oxford College campus which focuses on liberal arts, leadership, and service. At Emory University, QuestBridge Scholars participate in monthly service events with various organizations around the Atlanta Community. First-year students are paired with upper-class mentors from the QuestBridge Scholar Network and have unique leadership development opportunities as well as access to multiple academic, financial aid, and career development resources on campus.
At Habersham Central, Brookshire excelled in the classroom and in student activities. She was a member of the Student Council and Mu Alpha Theta, served as a class officer, and played on the varsity volleyball team for four years. Brookshire was recently named to the Blitz Hall of Fame for volleyball. She was crowned Homecoming Queen her senior year and was an academic letterman.
“QuestBridge introduced me to many schools that I had never heard about, including Oxford College at Emory University,” says Brookshire. “I am extremely grateful that QuestBridge, Emory University, external scholarships, family, counselors, and mentors have made what seemed to be impossible, possible for me. I am currently meeting people from all over the world and expanding my horizons in a small community, just like home. I am so thankful!”
Brookshire plans to major in neuroscience and behavioral biology with a double major in Spanish as she pursues a career as a Physician’s Assistant.
