Firefighters knock out threatening vehicle fire in Mt. Airy

Quick action by first responders kept a fire in Mt. Airy from getting out of control.

Around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, callers to Habersham County 911 reported a commercial vehicle fire at 366 Sellers Road. Bystanders reported hearing and seeing explosions and tall flames with thick dark smoke in the air.

Firefighters from Habersham County Emergency Services and Lee Arrendale responded. Law enforcement officers arrived first on the scene and found a tree skidder engulfed in flames. The blaze threatened to spread to the nearby woods and logging equipment.   

Firefighters used multiple tankers to haul in water and quickly extinguished the burning vehicle and surrounding areas.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.
