Former Habersham County Commissioner and Alto businessman Victor Anderson is one step closer to his goal of becoming the next House District 10 State Representative. Anderson defeated his Republican primary challenger Robert Crumley by more than 1,900 votes. He claimed 5,211 votes (61%) to Crumley’s 3,277 votes (39%).
“I am humbled and honored to have the trust of Habersham and White Counties,” Anderson tells Now Habersham. “I look forward to representing District 10 in the next General Assembly. Thank you to everyone who supported and voted in this election. It was a long, hard-fought campaign and I appreciate everyone involved.”
Anderson will face Democrat Nick Mitchell at the polls in November.

Harkness and Palmer win commission runoffs
In the race for Habersham County Commission, Bruce Harkness defeated incumbent Habersham County Commissioner Natalie Crawford in the District 4 GOP runoff. With all precincts reporting, the unofficial vote totals show Harkness with 3,597 votes (52%) to Crawford’s 3,330 (48%).
The former Demorest City Councilman, who does not face any Democratic opposition in November, thanks his supporters and says he’s “humbled and honored” to be elected.
“I must first pay honor to the current commissioner Natalie Crawford for her past eight years of hard work for the county. She is very respected in the community and throughout the state. I highly respect Natalie, as well,” Harkness says. “I think she ran a very clean and honorable race. Also, I must say that Trent Davis, as well, is a fine man and he also ran a clean race in the primary.”
“I am honored that the working men and women of this county elected me to be their next commissioner and, as I have promised, I will work hard for everyone in this county regardless of your standing, your economic position, or where you live or where you work,” Harkness says. “Finally, I ask for everyone to please pray for me for God to give me wisdom to be a good leader for the people of this fine county.”
In the District 1 Habersham County Commissioner Republican runoff, Bruce Palmer defeated Jefferey Lunsford. Palmer received 3,349 votes (51.8%) to Lunsford’s 3,110 votes (48.1%).
In a statement to Now Habersham Palmer says: “I would like to thank my supporters and the citizens of Habersham County for their vote. I look forward to the ability to serve the citizens as commissioner. It was a close race. Glad it’s finally over. I can continue to become more familiar with the county government.”
