The 12th annual Folk Pottery Show and Arts Festival will take place on Saturday, September 5th, from 10 am-4 pm at the Sautee Naacoochee Center. The event is free and will highlight the pottery and artwork of 20 venders and northeast Georgia folk potters.
The yearly event will also include the live music of Bittersweet, a group that offers bluegrass, gospel, and old time music, on the outdoor stage.
The entire campus will be open for visitors at no cost and includes the African-American Heritage Site, the Cultural Center, and the Folk Pottery Museum. The pottery of Mike Craven, a legendary Gillsville-based potter, is currently on exhibit in the Folk Pottery Museum. Craven comes from a folk-pottery tradition that dates to the early 1700s.
The African-American Heritage Site will feature docent tours of a restored slave cabin and a blacksmith demonstrating on an open forge. The Cultural Center will be open for visitors to go through the local history museum and two gallery shops featuring work by northeast Georgia artists in a variety of media.
All COVID-19 safety procedures will be in place, including checking temperatures and recording contact information at entry. No food will be provided. Social distancing is recommended and wearing masks is encouraged.
