Lula woman killed in single-vehicle crash in Banks County

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle accident that killed a Lula woman over the weekend.

Troopers say 21-year-old Courtney Mae Flanagan died when she was thrown from her car after it struck a utility pole.

The fatal crash happened around 11 p.m. Sunday, July 26, on Old U.S. 441 approximately one-half mile north of Simmons Road in Banks County. The preliminary investigation determined Flanagan, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla, failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and lost control of the vehicle. The car ran off the road and slammed into a utility pole.

“Ms. Flanagan was not restrained and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased on the scene,” says Sgt. C.E. Parker with Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville. While there will be no charges, Parker says the investigation continues as to whether or not impairment was a factor in the crash.
