Off-duty Banks County deputy injured in motorcycle wreck in Baldwin

A Banks County deputy is in intensive care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following a motorcycle accident in Baldwin.

Jonathan Segars, of Maysville, was critically injured in the crash around 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of GA-365 and State Route 384/Duncan Bridge Road.

Segars, an investigator with the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, was off-duty at the time of the crash. He was participating in a benefit ride, according to friends.

The Georgia State Patrol reports the 32-year-old Segars was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson Motorcycle south on GA-365. As he approached the intersection, he “applied the brakes and the motorcycle began to skid,” according to GSP. The motorcycle overturned onto the roadway.

An Air Life ambulance flew Segars to the medical center in Gainesville.

Segars suffered a severe brain injury, according to his wife, Brittany. “The doctors say they are remaining hopeful, but the next few days are critical,” she shared in a Facebook post.

Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed took to social media late Saturday and asked the public to “say a prayer” for Deputy Segars, adding, “the doctors are very optimistic in his recovery.”

Heartened by the outpouring of community love and support, Brittany Segars says she remains hopeful her husband will make a full recovery.
