Area school immunization clinics start this week

With the challenges and uncertainty of COVID-19, it can be easy to forget about school immunizations. Public health officials remind parents that children must have their shots before they can enter school. Even those enrolled in online learning should be immunized.

“It is important for parents to keep their children up-to-date on their immunizations,” stresses District 2 Public Health spokesperson Dave Palmer. “Although returning to school may be uncertain at this time because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we can protect children against known diseases by getting their recommended vaccines.”

Public health departments across Northeast Georgia will hold school immunization clinics during the month of July at the following dates, times, and locations:

Vaccinations are by appointment only and may be scheduled by contacting your local health department.

There is a charge for immunizations unless the child qualifies for the Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/programs/vfc/index.html. The charge for vaccines is dependent on the type of vaccine administered.

Parents/Guardians will need to bring the following to their child’s appointment:

  • I.D.
  • Insurance card (private or Medicaid),
  • Shot records, especially if coming from out of state or out of the country. If the child has been in school in Georgia, then they should be in the Georgia Registry of Immunization Transaction System (GRITS).
  • Debit/Credit card or cash

Public health officials remind parents and children to follow social distancing guidelines and wear masks to their appointments.
