The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says it’s shut down a major methamphetamine pipeline that stretched into rural North Georgia.
The massive multi-agency drug and gang bust followed a 9-month long investigation called “Operation The Real McCoy.” Investigators were tipped off to the major operation last fall and said it took the cooperation of multiple agencies to make arrests and dismantle the operation.
During the investigation, agents seized over 136 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at $1.76 million and approximately $100,000. More than 47 warrants were issued for suspects including members of the Ghostface Gangsters, the Gangster Disciples, and the Sureños.
During a press conference Wednesday, officials said several gangs were working together to import the narcotics into DeKalb and Gwinnett counties. From there, they shipped them off to Sumter, Effingham, Fulton, Clayton, DeKalb, Cobb, Cherokee, Gilmer, and Pickens counties.
One of the suspects is Brannon McCoy, 26, who agents say acted as a drug broker from within the State Prison Camp in Sumter County.
