The Habersham County Board of Elections will conduct a recount in the District 4 County Commission race on Wednesday, June 24.
The recount will take place at 9 a.m. in the Elections Office at the Habersham County Administration Building in Clarkesville.
The recount is being conducted at the request of Cornelia businessman Trent Davis who was one of three candidates in the race. He missed making the runoff, losing to challenger Bruce Harkness in the initial count by just eight votes. Elections supervisor Laurel Ellison says the ballots will be scanned. They will not be recounted by hand. “I believe a hand recount would have to be court-ordered,” she tells Now Habersham.
Both Davis and Harkness have said they will abide by the results of the recount.
The winner will go on to face incumbent District 4 Commissioner Natalie Crawford in the runoff on August 11.
