Habersham releases official, complete June 9 primary election results

Monday, the State Election Board approved an online portal for voters to request absentee ballots for November's general election. A record 1 million Georgians voted by mail in the June 9 primary to avoid precincts and interactions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Habersham County Elections Office tonight released the final results of the June 9 primary.

The results include twenty-two additional votes, eighteen of which came from provisional ballots and four absentees.

The absentee ballots that were added to the final count were mistakenly sent to other counties through a “postal service sorting error,” explains Habersham County Elections Assistant Olivia Schapansky. Although they were mailed to the wrong locations, they were received on election day. The Habersham County Board of Elections certified they were received on time and should be counted.

Susan Turpin casts her ballot in the June 9, 2020, primary.

Habersham County’s official and complete results (see below) must now be certified by the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office. Once that happens, there will be a recount in the District 4 Commission race to determine who will run against incumbent Natalie Crawford in the August 11 runoff. Only eight votes separate the challengers. Trent Davis trailed Bruce Harkness in the initial polling.

Runoffs also are scheduled in the District 1 Commissioner race, Senate District 50, House District 10, and 9th Congressional District races.
