Truett McConnell University in Cleveland on Saturday held what is believed to be among the first in-person university graduations in Georgia during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To reduce crowd size, the university held two separate graduations at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 13. The school held the ceremonies in TMU’s Student Wellness Center on the Cleveland campus. Immediate family members were allowed to attend.

Graduates sat in socially-distanced chairs as guests gathered in the bleachers.

Because of the special circumstances, TMU President  Dr. Emir Caner in his address told the graduates, “this is going to be a special day you will probably remember for  many years.”

The university livestreamed both ceremonies on the TMU Facebook page. WRWH Radio 93.9 FM in Cleveland also broadcast the ceremonies live.
