“It was one of the most moving and emotional military experiences of my life.” ~ Douglas W. McDonald, Sr., Cornelia, GA
Habersham County attorney Douglas W. McDonald, Sr., recently participated in an Easter Weekend Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. McDonald took part while serving in his role as Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons for the State of Georgia. He calls the experience “An unforgettable memory,” and adds, “God Jehovah’s Holy Word teaches us ‘Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends’ (John 15:13) and that is exactly what the Unknown Soldier did.'”
Grand Master McDonald and First Lady Carol McDonald traveled with a group of 80+ Masons and wives on a 5-day bus tour from Atlanta to Washington, D.C. The group toured many historical sites, including the Billy Graham Library, Harrison Landing, Berkeley Plantation and Gardens, Jamestown Settlement, the birthplace of George Washington in Popes Creek, Virginia, the U.S. Capital Building, Ft. McHenry, Baltimore, Maryland, The George Washington National Masonic Memorial and Arlington Cemetery.
The trip coincided with the Grand Master’s Grand Lodge theme for the year of “Return to Patriotism and Our Roots”.
