Five people are behind bars following a drug bust in Demorest. Authorities say they were tipped off to possible illegal drug activity at a home at 300 Chuck Wagon Drive. When officers went to investigate they say they encountered the suspects and found a stash of drugs.
The investigation involved officers from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) and the Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Unit.
ARDEO Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey says agents seized one-half ounce of methamphetamine, oxycodone, dilaudid and marijuana from the residence . The drugs have a street value of $2,000.
Posey identifies the man living in the house as Bruce Reaves. The 41-year old Demorest man was arrested along with the four other people found at his residence. They’re identified as 31-year old Wanis Thonetheva of Athens, 38-year old Thomas Adams of Commerce, 41-year old Kimberly Shirley of Cornelia and 26-year old Amira Rubian of Clarkesville. All face drug possession charges. Adams also is charged with intent to distribute meth. All five are being held in the Habersham County Detention Center.

This is the second time in as many weeks that agents have arrested drug suspects in Demorest on the heels of citizens’ complaints. Their arrests bring to at least 21 the number of drug-related arrests made by ARDEO and local law enforcement since late February.

The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office is a multi-agency unit that consists of the following Sheriff’s Offices: White County, Lumpkin County, Towns County, Banks County, Habersham County, Stephens County, and Rabun County, along with the Georgia National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, the Department of Public Safety, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
