Michael Lebow MD, the founding medical director of Endovascular Surgery at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, has relocated to Habersham Medical Center (HMC) in Demorest to treat patients with vascular disease such as aortic aneurysms.
Recently, Dr. Lebow performed the first minimally invasive aortic stent graft procedure at HMC. A patient with a 5.2 cm abdominal aortic aneurysm underwent the procedure through a single small incision in the groin and was discharged the next day. Not many years ago, repairing aneurysms, such as this, required major surgery and a prolonged recovery. Now, with modern technology, aortic stent-graft placement to repair abdominal aortic aneurysms is practically an outpatient procedure and has a short recovery period.
Dr. Lebow views HMC as the most promising up and coming hospital in northeast Georgia. “When I first toured HMC, I couldn’t believe that such a wonderful facility with expert staff and physicians existed in rural northeast Georgia,” says Dr. Lebow. “I knew immediately that HMC was the place I wanted to establish the region’s next Endovascular Operating Room.” Since that time, the nurses and technologists from HMC’s operating rooms and patient care units have received extensive training in the care of vascular patients from experts in the region in preparation for recent case.”

The addition of Vascular Surgery to HMC compliments already established surgical programs in Gastroenterology, Gynecology, General Surgery, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Podiatry as well as an inpatient hospitalist service staffed by physicians from the Longstreet Clinic.
