Elainia York Smith, age 53 of Clarkesville, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.
Born in Toccoa, Georgia on March 6, 1967, to Bobby and Beatrice Chitwood York of Clarkesville. She was the director of special education at Woodville Elementary and worked in the Habersham County School System for 21 years. Mrs. Smith obtained her masters/ specialist degree from Piedmont College in 1985. She had a love and passion for children like no other having hosted 3 exchange students, two from Germany and one from South Korea. Mrs. Smith was active in the community, having been involved with Foothills of North Georgia, EMMAUS, Woodmen of the World and anything to do with children. She was a member of Cool Springs Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Edward Smith.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her son, Ethan McKlain Smith of Clarkesville; special cousin, Adelaide Loudermilk; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A drive-by funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Cool Springs Methodist Church with Rev. Garvis Kinsey and Rev. Steve McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will have a drop-in visitation from 12 noon until 5 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
