Utility crews are fanned out all across Georgia working to restore electricity in the wake of deadly storms.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, 45,000 Georgia Power customers remained without power. More than 4,000 Habersham EMC meters were out. Most of those outages are in Habersham County.

Although the storm has passed, there are still some very real dangers, public safety officials warn.

  • Never touch any downed wire or low hanging wire, including Cable TV wires.
  • Never pull tree limbs off of power lines yourself or enter areas with debris or downed trees. There may be live wires buried in the debris.

Also, remain mindful we are still in the midst of a pandemic and social distancing guidelines still apply.

Georgia Power asks the public to adhere to the guidelines and to not approach them in the field.

“Our crews are following the CDC’s recommended guidelines on social distancing. In the event a member of our team needs to work near your home or business, customers are asked to keep children and pets indoors and maintain the recommended six feet distance from crew members,” the company says in a press release. “Following these guidelines will help us ensure the health and safety.”
