If you have children, know children, or were ever a child, chances are good you’ve heard of sidewalk chalk art.

Sisters Serenity and Briyanah Barrios poured their hearts into this thank you note they drew on the driveway outside their family home in Demorest.
Like other children around the globe, these young girls are making adjustments. Before the pandemic hit they were happy attending school with their friends at Fairview Elementary. Ten-year-old Serenity is in the 5th grade there. Six-year-old Briyanah is in Kindergarten.
Their grandmother Jackie DelosSantos describes them like this:
“Serenity loves art and has such a carefree spirit. She was active in volleyball before the pandemic hit. Briyanah is always happy, caring, and smiling. She loves puzzles and was active in softball before all of this.”
Now, there is no volleyball, no softball, no classrooms and lunchrooms full of friends. There’s just online learning. And eachother.
There’s also the millions of first responders and medical professionals who are our frontline defense against COVID-19 and the retailers who keep the supply chain going.
For all they are doing, these two young sisters wanted to say, “Thanks!”
“Thank you to all the EMS, Nurses, Doctors, Law Officers, Fire Dept and Retailers for all you do in keeping us safe,” their sidewalk chalk message reads. It’s followed by a big pink heart.
The Barrios sisters are sending a message to the public, as well. They’re asking people to follow their example and stay home “because they really want the world to get back to normal and don’t want anyone else to get sick,” DelosSantos says.
They’re also asking people to pray – for our country and each other.
