NGTC extends online instruction to end of semester; postpones graduation

North Georgia Technical College students will not be returning to class this semester. The college announced today that it is extending online instruction until the end of Spring Semester 2020.

The decision was made after Gov. Brian Kemp ordered all public schools in the state closed through April 24.

Kemp’s executive order does allow for limited exceptions of in-person instruction at colleges. NGTC administrators are now working to apply for the exceptions for students needing lab hours.

Hulsey

“Modifications for the number of people gathered at a time in a lab is obviously one of the major hurdles we are trying to work through with the state,” says Vice President of College and Community Relations Amy Hulsey.

Hulsey says instructors will notify students once the details are worked out regarding when labs will resume and how they will be conducted.

Graduation

NGTC has postponed graduation at all three of its campuses until at least August and possibly September. Hulsey says rescheduling the ceremonies is a priority because “We certainly want to recognize our students’ achievements.” The college will announce the dates and times for graduation at its Clarkesville, Currahee, and Blairsville campuses “as soon as we have details confirmed.”

Hulsey adds, “We, again, thank all of our students for their patience as we work through numerous scenarios and make decisions that keep the student’s best interest, academic success and well being as our top priorities.”

More updated information will be posted on the college Facebook page and website at northgatech.edu.
