Joan Hopper Burch

Joan Hopper Burch, age 65, of Clarkesville, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2020, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Ms. Burch was born on December 27, 1954, in Brantley County, Georgia to the late Paul and Juanita Sowers Hopper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Hopper Leroy Hopper; and step-father, Bill Parris. Ms. Burch was a member of the New Liberty United Methodist Church in Clarkesville where she served as a part-time Children’s Sunday School Teacher and served on several boards. She was a self-employed housekeeper and elderly caregiver. Ms. Burch enjoyed knitting, reading, gardening, and most of all trout fishing. Joan was known as “Granny Joan”, and was a very loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and James Kimsey, of Mt. Airy; son, Terry Davis and his fiance, Kaye Waldrep, of Athens; son, David English, of Clarkesville; sisters, Gale Dover, of Hollywood; Judy Worley, of Cornelia; Melody Colbert, of Blue Ridge; Teresa Norwood, of Blairsville; Glenda Crooke, of Ellijay; grandchildren, Madison Kimsey; Cason Kimsey; Chance Davis; Reagan Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020, at the New Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 2020, and from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., on Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
