A Mt. Airy woman remains behind bars in Habersham County charged with murdering a Toccoa man.
31-year-old Kayla Marie Parker was arrested Sunday, Jan. 19 in connection with the death of 37-year-old Joshua Matthew Canady.
At approximately 11:05 p.m. on Jan. 18, Habersham County E-911 Dispatch received an emergency call in reference to a possible stabbing at 376 Ben Loudermilk Road. When deputies arrived they discovered a man, later identified as Canady, lying on the floor of the residence.
“Deputies administered CPR until Habersham County Fire and EMS arrived on scene and took over emergency treatment of the subject,” says Habersham County Sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Wurtz. Efforts to resuscitate Canady failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wurtz says Parker was at the scene along with two juveniles.
Habersham County Sheriff’s investigators were called to the scene to look into the circumstances surrounding Canady’s death. Sunday afternoon they obtained arrest warrants against Parker.
She’s charged with one count of murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of tampering with evidence, and two counts of cruelty to children.
The investigation is ongoing. Lt. Wurtz says further details will be released as they become available.
