White County fire forces residents from home

The fire burned one resident and killed a family pet

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that forced three people from their home Sunday afternoon in White County.

The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. at 70 Leatherford Road. E-911 dispatched Cleveland and White County firefighters to the scene. The Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade and White County CERT Rehab Unit assisted.

Half of the house was on fire when the first units arrived, according to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy.

First responders treated one resident for a minor burn. The fire killed a pet.

Officials called in the American Red Cross to assist the displaced residents.
