A last-minute shopping trip came together nicely to benefit more than two dozen kids in Northeast Georgia. The Hall County Optimist Club and sheriff’s office teamed up to buy coats for children in need.
After club members presented the idea to Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch, School Resource Officers (SROs) scrambled to get a list of names of elementary school kids who need coats.
“Planning is a great thing, but sometimes a decision to help others comes together quickly. The Hall County Optimist Club is always looking to give back to the community and gave the Hall County Sheriff’s Office an opportunity to help them in that mission,” says Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Derreck Booth.
Deputies went shopping with Optimist members at the Walmart in Oakwood on December 17. They bought coats of various sizes and colors.
In all, the Club and its community partners were able to purchase 36 jackets for SROs to deliver to students ahead of the holidays. Walmart kicked in a gift card to assist.
