Forensics experts say human remains found last year in South Hall County belong to a missing Flowery Branch man.
Personnel at the GBI Crime Lab identified the skeletal remains as Johnny Edgar Vickers. His family reported him missing nearly two years ago. Deer hunters discovered his remains on Dec. 12, 2019, while hunting near the intersection of Trudy Drive and Lights Ferry Road in Flowery Branch.
At the time of the discovery, detectives said they had good leads as to the identity of the deceased. Tests were needed to confirm it. Sheriff’s investigators have notified the family.
On April 9, 2018, a family member told authorities Vickers, 42, was last seen on March 5, 2018. Detectives followed several leads in the case but found no sign of him. Because of the condition of the remains, the crime lab was unable to determine the cause of death, but the sheriff’s office says investigators found no indication of foul play.
