A man was airlifted to the hospital this morning after a propane stove he was using to keep warm caught on fire inside his truck. The man, who officials say is in his 40s, suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his face, neck, and hands.
Around 10:12 a.m. Tuesday, Habersham E-911 dispatched first responders to a report of an explosion on Living Faith Lane in Demorest. They arrived at the scene to find the badly burned man outside a residence.
Officials say it appears the man was sleeping in his truck and was using a propane cylinder attached to a stove eye to keep warm. A flash fire occurred which burned the man and the inside of the vehicle.
An Air Life air ambulance transported him to the burn unit at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
Habersham County Emergency Services is investigating the incident but HCES director Chad Black says it appears the fire was accidental.
Officials have not released the man’s name. Black says there’s no current update on his condition.
