Students at South Habersham Middle School recently participated in a “Book Tasting” in the media center. Students sampled different genres of books such as Action/Adventure, Mystery/Suspense, and Scary Stories.
The media center was decorated to create the ambiance of a restaurant.
Students “tasted” books by looking at the cover art, reading the title, author, and summary, and flipping through the book to observe illustrations. Students rotated around the media center to try several different genres.

Media Specialist, Heather Bogue states, “This activity allowed our students to try something different. Many students gravitate toward one particular type of book. Through the book tasting, students were able to taste a variety of genres that they would not normally consider.”
At the end of the activity, students were able to check out one of the books that they discovered during the book tasting.
