There will be two new faces on the Demorest City Council come January. Dr. John Hendrix and Nathan Davis were voted into office in the November 5 election. They were the top two vote-getters in a three-person race for two open seats. They will succeed outgoing long-time city council members John Popham and Florence Wikle.
Hendrix is an optometrist and Davis is a local business owner.
Now Habersham reached out to the newly-elected council members for their reaction to Tuesday’s vote. Here’s what they had to say:
John Hendrix
“First, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the citizens of the city of Demorest for honoring me with their votes. I am humbled by their confidence and overwhelming support.
In the past few months, many voters have shared with me their ideas, their concerns, and their aspirations. I am touched by their willingness to discuss what really matters to them. It’s my belief that being an effective public servant involves listening to the constituents, translating their concerns into workable solutions, and building consensus to implement them. Thus, as I am moving forward to serve the residents of Demorest in the near future, I would like to encourage my fellow residents for their continuing support in providing me with ideas and feedback as I will not be able to do this job effectively without the involvement and openness of the people I represent.
Like many municipalities in the country, the City of Demorest also faces constant financial, infrastructure, and regulatory challenges, but we can overcome these challenges if we rise above politics to do what is best for the city. I look forward to positive changes that will make Demorest a place where people of all ages can call home and can count on a future.”
Nathan Davis
“I am honored and thankful to my many friends and family who encouraged me to run for council of Demorest. It has been humbling to have the overwhelming support shown to me during the campaign.
I will strive to uphold and enact the wishes of the citizens who have placed their faith in my ability to help govern the City. Concerns can be emailed to me directly at [email protected] for matters constituents may have regarding policy or procedures of the City.
I have a lot to learn and much work to be done in the City regarding the various issues brought to light in the campaign. My wish is to uphold our citizen’s values and desires regarding the future growth of the City and the fiscal operations.
Again my sincerest thanks for all the friends who placed their trust in me for council.”
