(Cleveland)- There’s another positive rabies report in White County. Sean Sullivan, White County Environmental Health Manager said homeowners in the New Bridge area arrived home Tuesday afternoon, October 29, and noticed that their dog was barking, which was unusual for their dog. Upon investigation, they found a raccoon in the dog pen and their dog had blood on its face. The raccoon was shot and the incident was reported the next day.
The raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab – Virology Section in Decatur. White County Environmental Health was advised Friday that the raccoon tested positive for rabies.
This is the third confirmed case of rabies in White County this year.
Sullivan said the dog is current on its rabies vaccinations but an observational quarantine of 45 days is still required. Positive alert signs will be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was located.
