Sunday night shooting suspect arrested, charged

A Gainesville man faces charges in a Sunday night, October 27, shooting off of Westside Drive in Gainesville.

Hall County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Necko Romane Jackson, 41, at a residence in the 1000 block of East Ridge Road at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Monday, October 28. Jackson is charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery for shooting the 41-year-old male victim in his jaw.

In addition, Jackson is charged with obstruction for attempting to flee on foot while deputies were making the arrest, says sheriff’s spokesperson Derreck Booth.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. on October 27 at a homeless encampment in the area of GA 13/Atlanta Highway and Westside Drive.

Bystanders helped the victim to a gas station at the corner of Pearl Nix Parkway and GA 369/Browns Bridge Road where a call was placed to 911. The victim was transported by fire services to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment. There’s no current update on his condition.

Jackson was being held in the Hall County Jail without bond on Tuesday morning, October 29.

The case remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
