Two men charged in connection with a violent home invasion last month in Baldwin are now in custody in the Habersham County jail.
The GBI arrested 44-year-old Kevin Knox of Baldwin on November 5 in Union County, South Carolina. He was booked into the Habersham County jail on November 11 after waiving extradition to Georgia.
The other suspect, 38-year-old James Childers II, was previously arrested at his home in Union, South Carolina. He also waived extradition to Georgia according to Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George Christian.
The two men are accused of breaking into and robbing a home on Spring Street in Baldwin in the early morning hours of October 13. Two elderly people were in the home at the time. One of them was injured, according to the GBI which is handling the investigation at the request of Baldwin Police.
During the course of the investigation, GBI agents traveled to Union County, South Carolina and, with the help of the sheriff’s office there, obtained evidence linking the two men to the crime.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office arrested Childers at his home on an unrelated drug charge. Knox was arrested nearly two weeks later in Union County, South Carolina, on outstanding warrants related to the home invasion.
Knox and Childers are each charged with one count of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of elder abuse.
Once the GBI’s investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the district attorney’s office.
