Clarkesville restaurants reopen after boil water advisory lifted

The City of Clarkesville Water Department has lifted its boil water advisory for all city water customers. The advisory was issued Tuesday as a precaution after a water main broke on Gabrels Road.

Clarkesville water customers may now resume normal use.

Public works crews spent most of Tuesday working to repair the leak. Local restaurants spent much of Tuesday and all of Wednesday with their lights off.

Customers who stopped by to eat in Clarkesville were sorely disappointed when they were greeted by signs on windows alerting them to the closures. El Jinette, Your Pie, Huddle House, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Yakimono, Zaxby’s, and Dairy Queen are among the restaurants that closed.

Businesses weren’t the only ones affected. Homeowners and local schools also had to take precautions.

At Clarkesville Elementary School and North Habersham Middle, water fountains were closed and bottled water was brought in for students to drink.

The schools’ cafeterias used bottled water for cooking.
