The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance photos Friday of a suspected car thief in the Woodcrest Subdivision in Clarksville.
A rash of car break-ins and thefts in the Woodcrest Subdivision in Clarkesville appear to be related to gang activity, according to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.
The crimes appear to be linked to people affiliated with gangs in the Atlanta area.
Several cars were broken into and two vehicles were stolen from the subdivision early Thursday morning, August 29. The stolen vehicles were later recovered in DeKalb County.
“These groups of gang affiliates are traveling outside of DeKalb County and selecting remote locations to commit crimes.”
Habersham County Sheriff’s investigators are now working with the DeKalb County Police Department on the investigation. They’ve identified and detained a juvenile believed to be involved in the Woodcrest car thefts, according to an online news release from the sheriff’s office.
Other suspects in the crime spree remain at large and they are considered to be armed and dangerous.
“Investigators have gathered information indicating that the suspects who committed these crimes are gang affiliated and were also involved in an armed robbery that same morning in Dekalb County,” the sheriff’s office says. “These groups of gang affiliates are traveling outside of DeKalb County and selecting remote locations to commit crimes.”

Late Friday night, the sheriff’s office released surveillance photos of one of the suspects breaking into a vehicle outside a home in Woodcrest. The images were captured by the homes’ security camera.
Officials urge county residents to lock their car doors, don’t leave valuables inside them, report suspicious activity, and if you see suspicious people in your neighborhood, don’t approach them, call 911.
