(Cleveland)- After months of wrangling with the issue of Short Term Rentals in White County, the board of commissioners has approved amendments to the White County Land Use Ordinance related to Short Term Rentals (STR).
During a three hour meeting Tuesday the commissioners heard from 23 different people who expressed their opinions about the proposed amendments, most talked about horror stories about renters who destroyed property, interrupt their quiet neighbors with loud late-night parties and more.
There were a few who are owners of property that they offer short term rentals and they stated they work to obtain good renters and handle issues if they arise.
The commissioners after hearing from the public voted to approve the 63-page document with a couple of changes, one that would allow the STR owners to obtain a third party to document that the home meets national building and other safety codes. Additionally, homeowners who want to set up a Short Term Rental are required to abide by land covenants and homeowners association regulations, if a subdivision does not have an HOA applicant must obtain written approval from the majority of homeowners in the subdivision.
The commissioners also approved procedural changes for public hearings related to land use issues and approved an updated land use map for the county. The new regulation becomes effective immediately.
