Miller and Parker pair up for HCT’s production of “I Do! I Do!”

One set. Two actors. Six performances left.

Amber Miller and Chris Parker take theatergoers on an emotional journey through marriage in the Habersham Community Theater’s production of the Tom Jones musical, I Do! I Do! In it, the two veterans of the local stage portray Agnes and Michael. The play spans fifty years, from 1895 to 1945.

From wedding to honeymoon, and the kids that come after, this show highlights the emotions that entangle us “as we navigate those relationships that bring real meaning to our lives,” producers say.

The show features 19 songs, including the 1967 Ed Ames hit “My Cup Runneth Over.”

Filling the stage

There may only be two of them but the experience and talent that Miller and Parker bring to their roles more than fill the John Kollock stage. “This is such a fantastic show and having two extraordinary actors to deliver this story is such a treat for our patrons,” says director John Preece.

The two have spent months together in rehearsals and the end product shows.

Miller is thrilled to be performing beside one of her best friends. Parker is too. “We have laughed, cried, and gone through just about every emotion in this process,” he says.

Beyond the stage

A native of Habersham County, Miller graduated from Mars Hill University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater. She’s been teaching dance and musical theater for the past nine years. Currently, she teaches performing arts at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Rabun County.

Parker is a school counselor who lives in Toccoa. Both he and Miller have performed in numerous HCT productions, often in leading roles. There’s still time (and a few tickets) left to catch their latest collaboration.

I Do! I Do! opened Thursday, May 30. Upcoming show dates are May 31-June 2 and June 6-9. Tickets are $18. They may be purchased online at http://sellingticket.com/Habersham or by calling the box office at 706-839-1315.
