Cornelia to host third grade field trip

Cornelia Elementary third graders will visit the City of Cornelia on its last field trip of the year on May 6. The City of Cornelia will host 90 kids and six teachers during the field trip.

Community Development Manager Jessie Owensby says she and teacher Anna Ferguson worked together to organize something new. “We are always very excited to host these students,” says Owensby. “We have plans for the kids that will be fun and educational and we are excited to see what they think of the changes we made this year.”

The students will visit Pure and Simple Soap and Sugartopia to learn about businesses and different trades. The kids will also be planting flowers around Cornelia with the Public Works department while they learn about the importance of community service and learn the differences between different flowers and soils.

The field trip will also help to satisfy a college and career credit for the students. They will learn about soap making, baking and decorating, and landscaping which are all part of the economy of Cornelia.

City officials ask that residents and visitors please be mindful of students crossing streets and using sidewalks on Monday, May 6 throughout the Downtown and Municipal areas. Please drive cautiously and stay alert while behind the wheel.
