Two people were injured Tuesday morning when a Demorest fire truck rear-ended a vehicle on GA 385 near Central Avenue.
26-year-old Nerik Meister of Baldwin was driving the truck south on GA 385 when he drove up on a Chevy Tahoe and Ford Taurus stopped in the road waiting for another vehicle to turn. The State Patrol says Meister failed to stop in time and the fire truck rear-ended the Tahoe. The impact pushed the Tahoe into the Taurus. Both of those drivers were injured.
34-year-old Emma Gonzalez of Alto was driving the Tahoe. An ambulance transported her to Habersham Medical Center for treatment. EMS took the driver of the Taurus, 47-year-old Johanna Flores of Clarkesville, to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
Meister was not injured. He told the investigating State Trooper that the breaks on the fire truck were working improperly.
Gonzalez was charged with driving while unlicensed.
