Habersham falls in opening round of playoffs

It was a dream come true for the Diamond Raiders when they made it into the playoffs this year. The dream was sweet but short-lived.

The Raiders (19-13) fell two games to none to South Paulding on the road in the 6A opener on Wednesday. Habersham fought hard but came up just short in the first game, 7-6. South Paulding went on to win the second game, 6-2.

Despite the loss, the Raiders can mark this season a success. This is only the second time in school history the Diamond Raiders have made it into the playoffs. Their last post-season appearance was in 2006.

The Raiders weren’t the only local team to fall in the first round. Banks and Union fell, too, while Jefferson and Stephens went on to force game three in first round action.
