The votes poured in (19,912) from all over Habersham, as both the girls and boys top vote-getter were Hab Central soccer standouts. Alex Ramirez (7,117 votes) and Addie Penick (6,292) were the top overall vote-getters. Worth noting that Towns County’s Taylor Cornett (4,921) almost edged Penick for the honors. Unrelated to voting outcome, BLITZ chose star keeper Fallan Lacey (Dawson County) as a Co-Player of the Week.
ALEX RAMIREZ – FAN VOTE
Alex Ramirez has been a star between the pipes for the Raiders, who have stapled a state playoff appearance with a 7-2 mark in region play and 9-3-2 overall. Especially lately, Ramirez has been clutch, securing 1-goal wins for Habersham in each of the last 3 region games.
The senior has notched 15 saves in those three contests, and this season has 2 shutouts and allows 1.6 goals against on average. This is Ramirez’s first Player of the Week Award.
ADDIE PENICK – FAN VOTE
For the Lady Raiders, a number of girls have stepped up at different points in 2019. The latest to answer the call is sophomore forward Addie Penick. While her team is only 5-8 overall, they are 5-4 in region play and in a good position to make the state playoffs.
Penick is a big reason why, scoring 5 goals in the past 3 games, going 2-1 in the process. This is Penick’s first Player of the Week Award.
