Three people were sent to the hospital, one by helicopter, after a two-vehicle crash this morning on GA 197. Troopers from Post 7 in Toccoa responded to the the wreck around 10:48 a.m. It happened just south of Bobby Brooks Road.
Robert Rowan of Clarkesville was driving a 2012 Toyota Highlander north on GA 197. Patrick Godwin of Pensacola, Florida was driving a 2010 Toyota Camry south on 197. Rowan failed to maintain his lane and crossed the center line, according to Sgt. Casey Coffee. The Highlander struck the Camry head-on.
The 75-year-old Rowan and 39-year-old Godwin were both critically injured in the wreck, . A passenger in the Camry was also injured. She’s identified as 34-year-old Amber Krystine Horton, also of Pensacola.
Rowan and Horton were transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) in Gainesville. Godwin was taken to NGMC by Air Life Georgia Helicopter. “Two patients were rapidly taken to surgery with serious to critical injuries upon arrival at the hospital,” says Habersham Emergency Services Director Chad Black.
The State Patrol charged Rowan with failure to maintain lane.
